Heroics from Tom Fox takes depleted Meopham so close

Linton Park 171-5 beat Meopham 167-3 by 4 runs

A depleted Meopham u15 side took on the joint league leaders at the Green with only 8 players. A tough ask on a hot morning with a rapid outfield to contend with too. Linton Park batted first after winning the toss, and were soon rattling on at 8 an over. Toby Hughes batting at no 3 hit a classy 52 not out, Matt Stibbons and Daniel Goodbarne pegged back the run rate slightly but the visitors closed on a seemingly imposing 171-5 from their 20 overs.

Meopham were given a solid start from skipper Max Luckett (29) and Owen Hinks (26) with a 1st wicket partnership of 51, but at the half way stage were over 100 runs short. Enter Tom Fox who smashed 63 not out including six 4s and three 6s as over 100 runs were scored in the final 10 overs, 43 coming from the last 3 overs. Support was provided by Daniel Goodbarne (18) and Jim Williams (11 not out). 20 runs were needed off of the last over, but despite the best efforts of Fox and Williams only 15 runs were scored.

Congratulations to both teams for a superb game of junior cricket!
