Jack Fox hat trick steers 2nd XI to victory 1st XI lose at Penshurst Park A win for the Sunday XI!

Weekend review

Meopham 1st XI suffered a dramatic collapse as they chased a low total of 140 on a difficult wicket at Penshurst Park. Having restricted the home side to 140-8 with fine bowling from Adam Colegate (1-15 from 9 overs), skipper Andy Powney (2-18) and Adam Roxburgh (2-22), Meopham appeared to be coasting to victory at 80-2 with Adam Orridge (33) and Kevin Smith (31) at the crease. However when this pair were separated, wickets tumbled and the visitors were dismissed for 95. Martin Semmens hit 50 and bagged 5 wickets for Penshurst Park.

Meopham 2nd XI achieved a much needed victory over struggling Horsmonden 2nd XI at the Green. Inserted in to bat Meopham were struggling at 46-3 before two recovery partnerships got the innings back on track. Gavin Tovey returned to form with a fine 79 and Glyn Fortt hit a breezy 24. Harvey Luckett hit some lusty blows as Meopham closed on 195-8. Horsmonden also lost early wickets to the Luckett brothers before Jack Fox destroyed the middle order taking a hat trick all clean bowled. What a way to celebrate his birthday!! Youngster Will Cunningham played a fine innings of 63 not out but Meopham closed on a comfortable win by 63 runs.

The Sunday XI secured victory at the fourth time of asking against Wrotham St George at the Green. The visitors made 162 in their 40 overs, Charlie Whitman bagged 4 wickets on his first game of the season , skipper Jon Pollard took 2-21 and Thish Bala kept the scoring in check with a miserly 1-10 off his 8 overs. In reply, Bruce Clarke returned to form and back into Fantasy League credit with 57 runs, Max Luckett hit 24, Ian Hinks 18 not out and George Williams 16 as Meopham cantered home with 9 overs to spare. Well done boys!!
