202 run opening partnership for 2nd XI 1st XI rained off

With the Green under water on Saturday morning, the 1st XI game was forced to be cancelled.
Fresh from beating 2nd in the table Kemsing on August 4th, the 2nd XI travelled to struggling Horsmonden where the ground was wet but playable. Winning the toss and batting, father and son opening partnership of Andy and Alex Bryant amassed 202 for the first wicket before Alex fell caught in the deep for an excellent 94. Andy carried on to a superb century and then showed no mercy to the tiring attack as he bludgeoned his way to 146 before falling in the penultimate over of the innings. Great entertainment for the travelling fan (Keith Powney)! Meopham closed their innings on 309-4.
Despite a century second wicket partnership, Horsmonden were never up with the run rate, although wickets were hard to come by. Jack Fox bowled superbly with little luck, passing the bat time and time again. Darren Deeks picked up his customary late innings wickets to finish with 2-14.
Three wins in a row for the 2nd XI, and division 4 cricket now a certainty for 2019.
