Meopham 1st XI storm to 8 wicket victory at Bearsted
In form Meopham 1st XI visited lowly Bearsted boosted by the acquisition of Mark Lewis-Ranwell from Dartford CC. The Lewis-Ranwell family have a long association with the club, but Mark had played all his Saturday league cricket with Dartford in the Kent League.
Inserted into bat on a lively wicket, a small ground and a lightning outfield Bearsted got off to a flying start with skipper Mark Sandhu blasting 65 from 48 balls including 6 sixes. Bearsted passed the 100 mark in the 16th over and looked set for a large total. But once Sandhu departed caught in the deep by Ryan Lewis-Ranwell off of James Innes, the home team's innings fell away, and they were all out for 206 in the final over. Innes starred with the ball taking 4-27 from his 9 overs.
The large away following of 9 fans were royally entertained as Andrew Powney and Lewis-Ranwell set about the home attack. Powney fell with the score on 99, before a further 77 were added for the second wicket as Chinese Premier League player Gary Howorth joined in the carnage. Meopham secured victory in the 33rd over as Lewis-Ranwell went from 97 to a superb 119 not out in the space of 5 balls. An innings that included 14 fours and 5 sixes off of 102 balls.
Meopham move into clear second place in KCVL division 1.
